I’m sure by now that you’ve heard of some of the skin care treatments that are quite popular nowadays. Like laser treatments, dermabrasion and of course skin peels.
While this article read deal mostly with skin peels as they are more effective and more cost-effective than any other treatment short of plastic surgery.
So what exactly is a skin peel or chemical peel as they are sometimes also referred to?
Well a skin peel is basically the application of an acid or similar chemical agent that burns the top layers of skin and after the dead skin falls away reveals younger and healthier looking skin.
Some skin or chemical peels are much more benign and are basically referred to as lunchtime peels because you can do them during her lunch break and go back to work that much worse for the wear. With these lunchtime peels you may look like you had a slight sunburn and discomfort is minimal at most.
A good candidate for a lunchtime or weaker peel are the AHA or alphahydroxy acids like glycolic, lactic or malic acids. These are usually made with ingredients like sugar derived acids and they’re usually applied in weaker concentrations to produce the desired results. Being that these are weaker concentrations in weaker acids being applied the results are not quite as far-reaching or as Earth shattering benefits as a stronger medium depth skin peel like the TCA skin peel which we’ll talk about in just a bit.
Along with the AHA acids we also have the BHA acids or beta hydroxy acids. There is basically just one beta hydroxy acid that is used for facial skin peels and that is salicylic acid. Unlike the AHA or glycolic acids (glycolic is the most popular and most used of the AHA acids) salicylic acid is oil-based and works great with oily skin, clogged skin pores and in acne manifestations. This also acid can penetrate deeper into the clogged pores and what is more effective on acne causing bacteria and excess oil problems or sebum as it is commonly referred to.
Some people have found that they are allergic to both the AHA (glycolic) and the BHA (salicylic) acids and they tend to break out in facial rashes similar to shaving burns. This might be because they’re allergic to the sugar components that some of these acids are derived from or for some other reason. In these cases it is best to go with a synthetic acid which is not derived from sugars or fruits. The most popular and most talked about and obviously most used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons of these acids would be the TCA skin peel.
The TCA skin peel (or as it is also referred to, trichloroacetic acid) is a stronger, medium depth skin peel that is more effective than either the AHA or BHA acids and it has much farther reaching and longer lasting effects. Unlike the AHA and BHA acids, TCA peels also have been proven to increase collagen production in the skin in areas where it has been applied. This one benefit here has made this the number one most sought after skin or chemical peel available today.
There is one more skin peel beyond the TCA peel but they are no longer used today to to their levels of toxicity. That would be the phenol skin peel.
The phenol feels are only used in more dire situations because they can cause permanent whitening of the skin and not only that, but the patient must have this done by a licensed doctor and in a situation where they can put the patient under anesthesia due to the high levels of burning that will be felt and also the patient must be monitored because the phenol will be absorbed through the skin and if too much is absorbed it can cause heart problems and even death. This is why will rarely ever hear of a doctor using a phenol chemical peel nowadays.
The chemical peels choice today is the TCA skin peel obviously. It provides the best results and treats more skin conditions from wrinkles all the way to acne and many other conditions. It is also more cost-effective and comes with the extra bonus of increasing collagen production most other chemical peels and skin treatments do not have this extra bonus.
Did you know that you can now get the exact same TCA skin treatments that doctors use in their offices for significantly less? Yes, you too can now have the same treatments at the Hollywood stars use at tremendous savings.
